VIDEO: Angie Johnson – Sing For You

Angie Johnson.

Former The Voice contestant Angie Johnson has just released her debut country music video! “Sing For You,” the title track from her EP out this week, is a pretty personal and important song for Angie. She was a former active duty service woman, and she believes she couldn’t have released anything better for Memorial Day.

Angie explains:

“‘Sing for You’ is the most dear song on the EP to me. I wrote it with Catt Gravitt and my producer Josh Leo. I had gotten pitched a lot of military songs about a spouse or a child and their perspective on having their husband deployed or their dad deployed, and I just didn’t feel like I could sing from that place because I am a military member. So when I got with Catt, and we started talking about being entertainers and going overseas and doing morale shows and having troops tell us their stories of losing buddies or PTSD or survivor’s guilt and all these things, it really felt like a story that needed to be told.  And it was my story. So, this song is my way of kind of saying thank you. I acknowledge that I’m not the one out there doing what you do, but here’s what I can do for you. Let me sing for you.”

Blake Shelton Album news

Great news for Blake Shelton fans this morning! The Oklahoma superstar announced himself on The TODAY Show with Hoda & Kathy Lee details on his brand new studio album! Blake will be releasing “Based On A True Story” on March 26th. The album will feature his current hot single “Sure Be Cool If You Did.”

Blake’s new album will be released just in time for a new season of NBC’s The Voice, which he’ll be returning for again. There’s been a few changes to the Teams on the fourth season: Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo Green have taken a single-season break to work on their careers and will be temporarily replaced for a season by Shakira and Usher. Adam Levine will be back once again to challenge Blake. Do you think Blake can win three seasons in a row? The new season of The Voice kicks off March 25th – the day before his album release.

In case you’re just waiting for more television time from the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year, you can catch Blake’s guest appearance on Reba McEntire‘s new sitcom, “Malibu Country,” on March 1st. Blake plays Blake, Reba’s brother.

See the full track listing, and album cover, for Blake’s new album below. Will you be picking up a copy when it hits shelves on March 26th?

Team Blake wins second straight season of The Voice

Congratulations to Blake Shelton and his finalist, Cassadee Pope! Team Blake has once again, for the second straight season, and second time in 2012, won NBC’s The Voice. Team Blake actually had 2/3 chances to take the title after two of his contestants made the final. Team Blake was both the champion and the runner-up, dominating this season. All three finalists received a brand new KIA from Cee-lo Green, however, as an early Christmas gift!

Blake had it in the bag after it was announced team Cee-lo came in third place. Cassadee, who started off on the show as a pop-rocker, has turned closer to pop/rock-country under guidance from her coach. It isn’t a stretch t o see her coach continue to be a part of her career, if his past involvement in his acts like Dia Frampton, Gwen Sebastian, and Raelynn are anything to go by.

Do you think Team Blake can do it again next season? Season 4 of The Voice kicks off in March, 2013 (and the blind auditions were already filmed before this season ended!). What was your favorite moment from this season?

Scotty McCreery Goes Gold

Scotty McCreery.

Congratulations to 19 Entertainment / Mercury Nashville’s Scotty McCreery! The boy wonder received and early gift this week from the RIAA. His brand new album “Christmas with Scotty McCreery” is now officially a gold album. The American Idol winner has sold more than 500,000 copies since its release on October 16th. Scotty will continue to enjoy the holiday season as he joins Cee-lo Green, Rod Stewart, and Mariah Carey at NBC’s annual Christmas special in New York City’s Rockefeller Center. The special airs tonight starting at 8 pm EST.

Scotty will also appear on ABC’s Good Morning America on Tuesday, December 11th starting at 7 am EST. Don’t forget to catch him on the Christmas Eve episode of GMA on December 24th too!

The Voice Renewed for 2 More Seasons

Looks like Blake Shelton will be staying at home on NBC for a little while longer. NBC announced that The Voice will have a fourth and fifth season this week, but with some big changes… superstars Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo Green will take a break in the fourth season, but are expected to return for the fifth. Replacing them for a season will be Shakira and Usher. Blake and Adam Levine will remain as coaches throughout the next two seasons.

NBC will be sticking to two seasons a year of The Voice – so it may be some sad news hoping to see Blake on-tour next year.

“With the addition of Usher and Shakira as rotating coaches to join Christina, , Adam and Blake in the next cycle, we know that this incredibly addictive program will remain even more relevant as we move forward through this exciting season,” NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said. “My hat is off to John de Mol, Mark Burnett, and everyone who produces this classy and highly entertaining show for us.”

The Voice’s third season is on-air now. What team do you think is the strongest so far? Do you think Team Blake has it in them to win the title for the second year in a row?

EXCLUSIVE: Interview With 2 Steel Girls

2 Steel Girls.

Two weeks ago, Blake Shelton picked the first duo of the season on NBC’s The Voice, the mother-daughter team of 2 Steel Girls. It was a big moment for the pair, who have had to hide the secret of being on Team Blake since the episode was taped earlier this year. For country fans who are wondering just who exactly the talented pair are, we sat down for a call last week with the friendly, and sweet, ladies to find out exactly who they were and what fans can expect from them musically. Turns out the second time was the lucky one for one member.

The duo is a family affair: with Allison Steel (mom) and Krystal Steel (daughter). Their son/brother and father/husband are part of their band, and you know they’ll be going places when their first live performance was at the iconic Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee.

Get to know the duo before they make it big – because they will. While they earned America’s attention with their blind audition of Carrie Underwood‘s “Before He Cheats,” find out why Krystal isn’t such a fan of the performance (but the coaches were!).

Check out our exclusive interview with 2 Steel Girls from The Voice below and let us know what you think about Team Blake’s chances for a repeat championship this year:

Recap: The Voice: Episode 2 – Meet Harry Potter & The Music Man

The Voice Logo
I’ll blame it on technical difficulties, but I may or may not have missed most of the first episode of “The Voice.” I just assumed (and you know what happens when you assume…) that my DVR would record the show, but alas, that wasn’t the case. I’ll be attempting to catch a repeat sometime soon, but, on to episode two!

Luckily for slackers like me, we get a brief recap of the first episode and I learn that each judge – Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine & Blake Shelton – will get teams of 16! Holy cow, what is this, pee-wee soccer?! They each grabbed two contestants in the season premiere, including a guy who sings “Listen” better than Beyonce and a bunch of other random people who sing, cry and have REALLY sad histories.

Our first contestant tonight is 22-year-old Brooklynite, Adriana Louise. I can tell immediately by her tight dress and judges’-chair-matching lipstick that she’s going to garner a creepy CeeLo smile. She wails through Jessie J‘s “Domino,” and all of the judges turn around. CeeLo makes some weird comments about a wedding, but it’s Christina’s finger-wiggling and debut CD (the first Adriana ever bought) that convince her to join “Team XTina.”

The Voice Releases New Promo Ad

If your summer has felt a little dry in the singing show department, fear not because the drought is almost over. In a little over a month, the Fab 4 of “The Voice” will be back on your TV screens, and they are all out for blood. In this new promo released by NBC, Christina, Adam, Cee-Lo and Blake perform some Matrix-esque stunts. Although we’re not sure what this has to do with singing, we’re more than happy to watch Adam Levine do pretty much…anything on TV.

“The Voice” returns to NBC on September 10th, and although we have yet to hear any contestants, we’re going to back our country boy and officially declare ourselves “Team Blake.”

EXCLUSIVE: RaeLynn From “The Voice” On Her Battle Round And Beyond

RaeLynn -- photo credit: Jewel Cole

RaeLynn keeps racking up the “firsts” for Team Blake on this season of NBC’s smash singing competition The Voice.   She was the first singer selected by Blake Shelton for his team.  Now she’s the first singer Blake picked as a winner in the Battle Rounds.

The 17-year-old was matched with Adley Stump for her Battle Round.  The pairing brought together two different types of singers:  The powerful voice of Adley vs the more stylish singing RaeLynn.  Coaches Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green picked Adley as the winner, while Adam Levine went with RaeLynn.  In the end the decision was Blake’s and he went with RaeLynn, taking style over power.

Clearly, Blake sees something special about RaeLynn.  But will the viewing audience feel the same way when it comes time to vote?  We’ll all have to stay tuned for the answer to that question.

In the meantime, we caught up with the talented Texan to get her thoughts on meeting Miranda Lambert, her Battle Round with Adley, preparing for the live shows and a product endorsement she could really sink her teeth into.

Did you honestly have no idea that you were going to be working with Miranda?

Lex Land: The Voice’s Sultry Singer

lex land

The music business isn’t anything new to Lex Land.  But competing on a stage as big as “The Voice” certainly is.

The 24-year-old member of Team Blake works full-time as a singer/songwriter.  She’s already released albums and some of her original songs have appeared on TV shows such as “Private Practice,” “One Tree Hill” and “Castle.”   The native of Austin, Texas believes in using her time and talents to give back to others as she also works as a counselor/teacher at a rock camp for girls.

The sultry singer’s redition of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” got three of the judges to turn their chairs during the blind audition.  Cee Lo Green turned first, followed a split-second later by Adam Levine.  It took quite a while longer, but Blake Shelton finally turned his chair.  Blake may have been the last to turn, but as Land said in a conference call, he was always Lex’s first choice because of his coaching on the show — and potentially beyond it.

“Well, I did actually want to be on Blake Shelton’s team.  I thought that he was a really great coach last year and I felt that, regardless of the outcome of the show, if any coach was going to continue to support me and to mentor me with whatever happened that it would probably be him.  So I was thrilled when he turned around.  And in the heat of the moment, I wasn’t really sure who I was going to choose, but I ended up sticking with my initial feeling and I’m really glad that I did.”
