Carrie Underwood celebrated a career milestone last night with her five-year anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. The Opry honored Underwood last night with a video presentation highlighting her incredible five-year run.

Underwood said, “It’s so hard to believe it’s been five years, but what an amazing five years it has been. Just watching that video, I was getting a little teary-eyed, thinking about how I felt when all of that was happening. And I still feel that blessed and that honored to be on this stage.”

As a token of the event, the Grammy Winner was presented with a commemorative print by Opry Vice President and General Manager Pete Fisher. He said, “You have far surpassed the high expectations we had when we brought you into the family, and we know it is going to continue into the future. You are not only so good for country music, you are so good for the Grand Ole Opry, and you are so good for America. We appreciate all that you do.”

Carrie’s headline arena tour played throughout the United States as well as Canada, Ireland, England, Northern Ireland and Australia, boasting mostly sell-outs in 2012 and all sell-outs during the 2013 leg.

Interesting by the numbers details on Carrie’s “Blown Away Tour” include bringing 9 buses and 16 trucks with 89 tour personnel to each city, including support acts, who traveled over 605,000 total miles through the life of the tour. Her state-of-the-art stage production included 575,424 individual LED lights in 3,000 square feet of video walls,23,063 feet of lighting cable (which is 4.36 miles!) with 172 different colors used in the show’s lighting. Carrie and her band flew 150 feet above the audience at every show at a speed of .3 feet per second on a B-stage that weighed 5,890 pounds. To create the “Blown Away” tornado at each concert, 450 CO2 tanks and 222 Nitrogen tanks were used. Over 2,600 pounds of confetti were diffused into the air and 408 beach balls were blown up to toss to the fans. Backstage, tour personnel consumed 22,636 bottles of vitaminwater® and smartwater®.

Carrie’s two previous headline tours, 2008’s “Carnival Ride Tour” and 2010’s “Play On Tour,” performed for a combined total of nearly 250 shows with 2.2 million fans in attendance. She wrapped 2008, 2010, and 2012 as the top female country touring artist.

Country songs for Memorial Day

Trace Adkins. photo credit: Showdog-Universal Records.

Country artists may just be the most patriotic out of any genre of music. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that if we were to put together a list of every country song that pays tribute to the military, that we’d have a never ending playlist. With tomorrow being Memorial Day in the United States, we wanted to put together a list of country songs that can help fans remember what this holiday is all about. From artists that perform for USO troops serving overseas, to artists who have hit singles with a remembrance theme, we put together our list for a 2013 memorial day playlist. Our picks aren’t in order.

Check out our picks below and let us know what songs you’ll be listening to for the rest of the weekend.

AMERICAN SOLDIER – TOBY KEITH

Originally released in November 2003 as a single from his album “Shock’n Y’all.” The song was a co-write by Toby with Chuck Cannon and became a number one hit on the Billboard U.S. Hot Country Songs Chart for four weeks. It was inspired by the times Toby had met USO troops serving overseas, and he wanted to find a way to show his support for them and their families. The video was directed by Michael Salomon and filmed at an actual US Air Force Base in Edwards, California with off-duty soldiers, reservists and their families.

Carrie Underwood donates $1 million to Red Cross

Oklahoman superstar Carrie Underwood isn’t forgetting where she came from. She just donated $1 million to the Red Cross for disaster relief efforts in her home state after a deadly tornado hit Moore, Oklahoma. The donation came from her tour proceeds on her “Blown Away World Tour starting back in 2012.

Carrie immediately tried to think of a way to help the victims of the tornado. She said:

“I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness. With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornados.”

Carrie’s home state of Oklahoma has recently experienced devastating tornados. This contribution to disaster relief will help people affected by disasters like tornados, floods and other crises around the country, including Oklahoma.
