In her song “Change,” Carrie Underwood sings, “The smallest thing can make all the difference.” These powerful lyrics demonstrate how small and simple actions can make a great impact on the world, something that Underwood has strived to do throughout her career.
On February 19 at the opening ceremony of Country Radio Seminar (CRS), Underwood was honored for her generosity with the Country Radio Broadcasters Artist Humanitarian Award.
Since her American Idol win in 2005, Underwood has given back to those in need in a variety of ways. She established the CATS (Checotah Animal, Town, and School) Foundation in her hometown of Checotah, OK to give back to local animal shelters, schools, and the town. She also donated $1 from every ticket sold on her Blown Away Tour to the American Red Cross – a donation that totaled over $1 million. Most recently, Underwood spent a number of days in January volunteering at a local animal shelter, combining her passion for animals with her love of giving back.
As an avid The Sound of Music fan (okay, geek … I know every line and I’m not ashamed of it!), it has crossed my mind on several occasions whether Julie Andrews has an opinion on the upcoming live performance of the classic, award-winning film, starring country music megastar, Carrie Underwood. Well, the original cinematic Fraulein Maria has spoken!
“I think she’s great,” affirmed Andrews who was nominated for an Oscar and a Bafta for her performance as the iconic governess. “It’s going to be the original show, I believe, and I think after 40 or 50 years it’s probably time somebody else had a crack at it.”
Meanwhile, Carrie has been spending time auditioning children for the production. Carrie predicts the children will be one of the best parts of the production. “I think once we get in there and I start working with the kiddos, I’ll probably get favorite moments in the show once we start working on it.”
As far as having the opportunity to perform the classic songs from the original production, Carrie explained, “Right now, I’m happy with them all, and I’m happy I get to sing them.”
The three-hour live television production will air December 5th on NBC.
As you may recall, we previously reported that Carrie Underwood would be taking on the role of Maria von Trapp in my all time favorite movie, The Sound of Music, for a one-time performance on live television.
NBC has released the advertisement (to be pronounced ad-vert-is-ment in honor of the queen, Julie Andrews) for the special re-make of the award-winning classic. The Sound of Music, Carrie Underwood-style, will air LIVE on NBC on December 5, 2013 at 8:00pm EST/7:00pm CST. Set your DVRs now for an epic television event!
And a word of advice from this extremely biased Keepin’ It Country writer (who absolutely adores Carrie Underwood), if you have never seen this movie before, please treat yourself to a showing of the Julie Andrews version first so you can truly appreciate the original and the adaptations made for this live performance of the film! Your life will be forever better after spending several hours watching cinematic perfection!
Big Opry news for Carrie Underwood! Two things…
First, the six-time Grammy winner performed her seventh Opry sold-out show of the summer this past Saturday, August 10. That is a pretty amazing accomplishment. Congratulations, Carrie!
Second, Underwood is the host of a new Grand Ole Opry radio advertising campaign. The campaign will feature Underwood reflecting on her 5th anniversary as an Opry member and inviting fans to visit Nashville. It will air next week in regional markets as well as on the Opry’s nationally syndicated radio program, America’s Opry Weekend.
During an Opry performance earlier this summer celebrating the big 5th anniversary, an on-stage video reel displayed some of her past Opry moments. The country star was overwhelmed by it all:
It’s so hard to believe it’s been five years, but what an amazing five years it has been. Just watching that video, I was getting a little teary-eyed, thinking about how I felt when all of that was happening. And I still feel that blessed and that honored to be on this stage.

Carrie Underwood celebrated a career milestone last night with her five-year anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. The Opry honored Underwood last night with a video presentation highlighting her incredible five-year run.
Underwood said, “It’s so hard to believe it’s been five years, but what an amazing five years it has been. Just watching that video, I was getting a little teary-eyed, thinking about how I felt when all of that was happening. And I still feel that blessed and that honored to be on this stage.”
Underwood will return to the Opry stage on July 5 & 6, 2013.
With three consecutive hits from her platinum-certified Blown Away album, Carrie Underwood is hoping to make a hit out of her latest single, “See You Again.” She plans to do just that with the release of the music video on Wednesday, June 5th.
Fans can get a sneak peek of the video on Good Morning America Wednesday morning. Subsequently, the entire video will air on later that day on ABCNews.com.
The release of the video marks a big week for the artist. Carrie will be in Nashville for several events surrounding the CMA Music Festival, including the opening of the Carrie Underwood: The Blown Away Tour exhibition, which will begin June 5th at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. As well, she will celebrate her fifth anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry on June 7th. Finally, Carrie will perform on June 9th on the CMA Music Festival’s LP Field main stage.
