Organizers of the Craven Country Jamboree thrilled  country fans this week with the announcement of the Saturday headline acts for their 2013 concert – the Dixie Chicks.

When Lady Antebellum was forced to cancel their appearance due to Hillary Scott’s pregnancy, the organizers scrambled to find someone special for the show. “We knew we had to find something extra special to replace Lady Antebellum when the band canceled their summer dates due to Hilary Scott’s pregnancy,” said Kim Blevins, director of marketing. “We are extremely excited that we can offer a taste of country music royalty to the Craven Country Jamboree. And it won’t be a regular show – not only will our fans see Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robison, the three original members, this is a greatest hits package. The Craven date will be one of the only opportunities fans of the band will have to see them live. This is an incredibly special moment for Chicks fans and the Craven Country Jamboree.”

Exclusive: Interview with The Herrold Sisters

Herrold Sisters

Hannah and Abby Herrold, collectively The Herrold Sisters, are a sibling singer-songwriter duo from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Fifteen-year-old Hannah and twelve-year-old Abby may be young, but they certainly have big dreams and they are determined to make those dreams a reality.

We recently had the pleasure of getting to interview the girls, and they seem well on their way to achieving their goal of making a name for themselves as country artists.

While Abby has had a life-long love for music and performing that rubbed off on her sister, their quest for a career as a duo commenced a couple of years ago. Abby had received a guitar as a birthday gift, and began taking lessons. In true sister fashion, Hannah started stealing the guitar. In no time, however, Hannah got her own and the girls began singing, playing, and harmonizing together. As Abby told us, “the rest is history.”

The girls have been traveling to Nashville for the past several months in order to further the pursuit of their dream, and they both agree that it has been their favorite part of their journey thus far. They are very thankful for the opportunity, and know that this business takes an immense amount of hard work. “We have been going to meet with an artist development manager to work on our playlist, guitar lessons and we do some song writing. It’s really a great opportunity!” shared Hannah. “We have really learned what the music business is like – it’s hard work! When we go there, we get to do what we love doing – playing music.” added Abby.

While the siblings admit that it is not always easy spending so much time together practicing and honing their craft, they truly love performing together and happily find their sisterly bond growing stronger. Abby said, “I feel like we’ve become really close to each other because of the time we spend together.”

The girls have videos ranging from original to cover songs on YouTube and their website. With inspirations including The Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood, The Band Perry, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, they really enjoy performing other artists’ material and trying to make a song their own. Their favorite song to cover is “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash, and Hannah thinks that it is their best one yet.

The sisters are currently co-writing new songs and getting ready for the album they will be recording and producing this summer. “We’ve been working with Johnny Garcia (Swat Music Group) in Nashville and are really excited about the next CD!” said Hannah. As they continue to work towards their goal, they are “going to keep working on getting better!” noted Abby.

These talented girls certainly do not let their age hinder them in any way. “Just because we’re young doesn’t mean we can’t dream big! We have big dreams and we want them to happen soon!” shared Hannah. “What Hannah said!” Abby adorably added.

With The Herrold Sisters’ drive and passion, we think the dream is right within reach!

EXCLUSIVE: Interview With Logan Mize

Logan Mize

We are thrilled to welcome back our friend, Logan Mize!

We spoke to Logan last year and also were lucky enough to have him be a part of our “Keepin’ It Country Presents….” StageIt Series.

Now, the singer-songwriter is releasing his brand new single, “Used Up.” The song has radio hit written all over it, and it also has a pretty interesting back story (which you can read all about below). “Used Up” is debuting worldwide today and is available on iTunes now: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/used-up-single. Make sure you check it out!

I had the great pleasure of catching up with Logan this past weekend and hearing all about his new ventures. We all know that Logan is a very talented artist, but he also is a great guy, nice as can be, and really funny!

I just want to thank Logan again for the wonderful interview! Check it out below:

Country songs for Memorial Day

Trace Adkins. photo credit: Showdog-Universal Records.

Country artists may just be the most patriotic out of any genre of music. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that if we were to put together a list of every country song that pays tribute to the military, that we’d have a never ending playlist. With tomorrow being Memorial Day in the United States, we wanted to put together a list of country songs that can help fans remember what this holiday is all about. From artists that perform for USO troops serving overseas, to artists who have hit singles with a remembrance theme, we put together our list for a 2013 memorial day playlist. Our picks aren’t in order.

Check out our picks below and let us know what songs you’ll be listening to for the rest of the weekend.

AMERICAN SOLDIER – TOBY KEITH

Originally released in November 2003 as a single from his album “Shock’n Y’all.” The song was a co-write by Toby with Chuck Cannon and became a number one hit on the Billboard U.S. Hot Country Songs Chart for four weeks. It was inspired by the times Toby had met USO troops serving overseas, and he wanted to find a way to show his support for them and their families. The video was directed by Michael Salomon and filmed at an actual US Air Force Base in Edwards, California with off-duty soldiers, reservists and their families.

Keepin’ It Country Presents: Sarah Davidson

sarahdavidson

Sarah Davidson, a Georgia native, grew up as one of six kids. So, naturally, Sarah had to find some way to stand out in her crowded Valdosta home. Fortunately, the solution came easily: the natural entertainer simply had to open her mouth and sing. Fast forward years later and Sarah is ready to share that fresh, powerful voice with the world and reenergize country music with a rare woman’s take on lighthearted, good-time music. Sarah’s next stop on her path to sharing her talents with country music? That would be our Keepin’ It Country Presents Stageit Stage on March 21st at 9:00 p.m. EST, and we could not be more honored to have her join us!

What Country (and Non-Country) Songs Kelly Clarkson Should Cover Next

205e3ad8-305b-4e45-_694917t
Kelly Clarkson has become a genre-defying queen of cover songs lately, throwing a new random offering into each of her live shows. While we love pretty much everything she does, we’re naturally more drawn to her country covers. Here are just a few suggestions that we’d love to hear from Kelly.

1. Not Ready to Make Nice by the Dixie Chicks – At a recent concert, Kelly tackled “Wide Open Spaces,” and although we totally dug it, “Not Ready to Make Nice” is the Chicks’ classic that we’re DYING to hear KC take on. It’s got that power and grit that we know Kelly would sound incredible with.
