Steel Magnolia Breaking Up?

Steel Magnolia.

Have country music duo Steel Magnolia broken up? Their March 24th show at the Greenville, Tennessee’s Niswonger Performing Arts Center has been canceled. The venue’s director started the rumors by saying that the pair are no longer performing together as Steel Magnolia:

“It is our understanding that the duo is no longer performing together,” reports NPAC Executive Director Darrell Bryan. “We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause our patrons.”

The duo is made up of the engaged pair Joshua Scott Jones and Meghan Linsey. They first appeared on the country music scene as the winners of CMT’s “Can You Duet?” in 2009. While there has been no official confirmation of the pair breaking up either professionally or personally, Big Machine Records did tell The Boot that Steel Magnolia is no longer on their roster.

Looks like Steel Magnolia’s Meghan Linsey won’t have to worry about being a solo act for much longer. James Otto has stepped up to the plate and will fill in for her duo partner, Joshua Scott Jones, while he spends time in rehab from alcohol and substance abuse treatment. James Otto tells GACtv.com that he was excited to be able to join Meghan on select dates of Reba McEntire’s “All The Woman I Am” tour:

“When I got the call from Meg, I thought it was a great idea,” he said. “I thought our voices would blend really well. I know that our musical tastes are very similar and we’re coming from the same place. Man, who wouldn’t want to be out on tour with Reba McEntire? That was one of those things that’s a no-brainer.”

James will perform with Meghan at the October 27th tour stop in Sioux City, Iowa and again at the October 28th concert in St. Louis.

Steel Magnolia: The show must go on

Steel Magnolia.

Last week, Big Machine’s Steel Magnolia band member, Josh Scott announced that he was entering rehab for Alcohol and Substance abuse. Now, Megan Lindsay, has taken to the band’s website to give the status on the rest of their shows. The duo is on tour opening for Reba McEntire.

Megan assures fans:

“Obviously with JOSH taking this time to get healthy he will not be with us, but we will still the playing the same hits you’ve heard at radio and putting on an amazing live show that might even feature some surprises.”

It should be interesting to hear how the songs will sound with just one member of the duo. We wish Josh the best in his recovery.
