REVIEW: Sara Evans’ “Slow Me Down”

Sara Evans Slow Me Down

Sara Evans has been climbing the charts and playing through your stereo speakers since the late 1990’s, and if there is one thing we can say about Evans, it is that nobody can slow her down. At a time where it seems that a lot of our favorite veteran female country singers are releasing new music, Evans is back with an album, Slow Me Down, that will not disappoint. With three duets (two of which might surprise you!) and several new solo tracks to introduce, Evans reminds us all why she entered the hearts of country music fans many years ago and why she has remained in our hearts since.

On this, Evans’ seventh studio album, the pristine artist proves that her music career remains full speed ahead. Slow Me Down kicks off with the chart-climbing title track, which talks about a relationship that is nearly over, but before one of them walks out the door, the other is given a final chance to hurry up and say the right thing. “Slow Me Down” is an appropriate start to this eclectic collection of tracks because, right from the beginning of this album, Evans hits the ground running with potential hit after hit.

This album is what fans have waited for and newcomers are bound to fall in love with.

The album comes over two years after the release of Stronger, her second Billboard Country Album Chart #1. When asked about her new album, Sara stated “making Slow Me Down has been a truly amazing experience. I had the chance to co-write with some of my favorite writers, work with Mark [Bright] and some truly incredible musicians – and now hearing what we created gives me such an incredible sense of pride.  Having Isaac [Slade], Gavin [DeGraw], and Vince [Gill] sing with me was an amazing experience and they took those songs to another level. I honestly have never been more excited to have everyone hear one of my albums. I cannot wait to share it with everyone.”

Platinum-selling RCA recording artist Sara Evans’ first single in a year “Slow Me Down” is now available at all digital retailers. The single, which has already been garnering an enthusiastic response, was produced by Evans and Mark Bright (Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, and Carrie Underwood). “Slow Me Down” is the first single from her forthcoming album set for release early next year. Fans can purchase the single, which is officially going to radio on September 23rd, at http://smarturl.it/slowmedown.

“I knew, as I’ve known with other songs that I’ve written and recorded that “Slow Me Down” was me,” said Evans. “I love songs that evoke emotion – it really is what connects people to the music. When we went into the studio to record (“Slow Me Down”) my main goal was to capture the desperation and passion in the song – to strike a balance between a strong vocal and the emotion that would pull in the listener.”

The infectious mid-tempo “Slow Me Down”, which was recorded in Nashville, was written by Marv Green, Jimmy Robbins, and Heather Morgan. November will see Evans, who was the first-ever country artist to host a Reddit chat with fans yesterday, return to the studio to finish up her seventh album, the follow-up to 2011’s Stronger. Evans is currently out on the road and will make her first trip down under next month for several shows in Australia before returning to the states for shows in cities including Pensacola, FL, Verona, NY, and St. Louis, MO.

Sara Evans has enjoyed a prolific recording career with nearly 6 million records sold and 5 #1 Country singles, including “Suds In The Bucket, “A Real Fine Place To Start,” and “A Little Bit Stronger,” which spent 2 weeks at #1 and was certified Platinum by the R.I.A.A.. Evans has garnered numerous accolades over the course of her stellar career, including the Academy of Country Music’s Top Female Vocalist honor and the Country Music Association’s Video of the Year for her hit chart-topping single, “Born to Fly” from her double-platinum album of the same name. Named to People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People,” Sara’s career also includes the Platinum-selling studio albums Real Fine Place and Restless, the Gold-certified No Place That Far and the double-Platinum selling Born To Fly.

Sara Evans has one of the best stories of the year. The CMA female vocalist of the year nominee made a huge comeback with the Hillary Scott co-write “A Little Bit Stronger” earlier in the year. The song launched her back to the top of the charts and put her on the track for a big comeback to the country music charts after staying out of the spotlight for a few years.

She’s back with her second single off of “Stronger,” and this one is just as good. “My Heart Can’t Tell You No” was released back in June to country radio, and debuted at number 54 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Charts. The second single off of her new studio album features alternate endings depending on where you were watching the music video – CMT, YouTube or downloaded from iTunes.

Did you know that Sara has also been hard at work with her own book series? She has two books she wrote about on a girl named Jade, from a small town who is getting ready to get married. We have your chance to win the second book in the series “Softly & Tenderly” autographed by Sara Evans herself! The contest is open immediately until Friday, November 4th at 2 pm EST. We will announce a winner later that night. The contest is open everywhere except where prohibited by law. The winner will be chosen randomly from correct entries received.

Sara Evans’ new single “My Heart Can’t Tell You No” might sound a little familiar. It’s a cover of a Rod Stewart hit of the same name, and she hopes it could be just as big. In fact, if she could have it her way, she’d turn it into a duet with the original singer.

Hear what Sara has to say about her single below, and let us know what you think of the second release from “Stronger.”
