Keepin’ it Country Tornado Relief Auction

UWCO horizontal lock-up-cmyk

When news of the tornadoes in Moore, Oklahoma, we here at Keepin’ it Country wanted to find a way to help and to make sure support and attention is still being given to victims in Oklahoma after the news stations had left the area. While the aftermath of the tragic tornadoes may not be making headlines anymore around the world, there is still a lot of work to be done in the area hit hardest by the disaster. That’s why we decided to organize an online charity auction for tornado relief with some of our favorite artists, labels, Festivals, and even hockey players.  All proceeds from these auctions, which are to be held over the next few days right here on Keepin’ it Country, will benefit the United Way of Central Oklahoma and their tornado relief efforts. All donations to the organization will be used for victims and relief efforts – NOT administrative fees.

Items up for auction include VIP Grand Ole Opry Tickets and meet and greet with Sarah Darling, an autographed Love & Theft guitar, Nashville Predators tickets from Mike Fisher, an Eric Church vinyl prize pack, Boots & Hearts tickets, autographed plaques, Rascal Flatts packages and MORE! All of these items have been graciously donated to us exclusively for our event.

The devastating May tornadoes have left people stunned and wondering how to help. United Way of Central Oklahoma advises that monetary donations are the best way to assist. The organization has activated its disaster relief fund effective Monday, May 20, 2013, so individuals may contribute specifically to the May tornadoes relief and recovery efforts.

1. Give online to the May Tornadoes Relief Fund located on their home page at unitedwayokc.org. If you are having trouble donating online, there are two other ways to give:

2. Give by credit card – call 405-523-3598, 405-523-3597, or our main number: 405-236-8441

3. Give by mailing a check to United Way of Central Oklahoma, P.O. Box 837, Oklahoma City, OK 73101 with notation for May Tornadoes Relief.

Fund dollars will be distributed without administrative fees to United Way Partner Agencies working on the tornado relief efforts. Agencies must clearly prove services provided and demonstrate need for financial support. Organizations that receive United Way disaster fund assistance will be evaluated and held strictly accountable. As our Partner Agencies work together to meet the immediate needs in the recovery efforts, the May Tornadoes Relief Fund will serve not only immediate needs, but intermediate, and long-term care for years to come.

Please join us in helping those that need it most and show how country music cares, even when the rest of the world has started to forget. We will be releasing news about each item up for auction right here on Keepin’ it Country and through our social media pages. Items will begin to be posted tonight and over the next few days.

Little Big Town raises $115k for Africa

Little Big Town.

Little Big Town recently played a special benefit show in their hometown of Franklin, Tennessee for a cause close to their hearts. The country group raised over $115,000 for Africa with a non-profit organization called “Blood: Water Mission.” The organization works to get communities to work together to fight against HIV/AIDS and water shortages in Africa. It was formed and created by Christian music group Jars of Clay and Jena Nardell with only $1,000.

Little Big Town has been previously involved with “Blood: Water Mission”. It was the second time the group raised money for the non-profit. Attendees at their concert included Rascal Flatts‘ guitarist Joe Don Rooney, Governor Bill Haslam, Tennessee Titans player Jake Locker, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, and more with a packed crowd.

Oklahoma country stars reflect on tornado

Toby Keith.

Our thoughts remain with Oklahoma and the victims of the tornado earlier this week. Country music stars are also reflecting and praying for the region after an EF 5, the highest rating a tornado can receive, touched down in the region.

Toby Keith said:

“This storm has devastated the community that I grew up in. I rode my bike through those neighborhoods. I have family and friends in Moore. My heart and prayers go to those that have lost so much. But Moore is strong and we will persevere. God be with you all.”

Krystal Keith:

“Please pray for my Okie’s today and in the coming days. I am devastated to watch the footage from afar. Feeling pretty helpless today.”

Carrie Underwood:

“I’m thinking about and praying for my beautiful home state and the people in it tonight. Growing up in Tornado Alley, you always know what could happen. It doesn’t change how devastating it is when something does happen. #pray.”

Miranda Lambert:

“Pray. That’s all we can do. Pray for peace for Oklahoma.”

Blake Shelton:

“Just landed in LA and hearing about all the tornados in Oklahoma right now… Get somewhere safe!”

It has been a huge week for Kree Harrison…

The American Idol finale was this week where she finished Top 2 and runner up to Candice Glover. Her debut single “All Cried Out” is available on iTunes. Today is her birthday (Happy Birthday, Kree). And earlier, she received some amazing news… she will be making her Grand Ole Opry debut!

The debut will take place on June 4th. Joining Kree on the Opry will be American Idol judge, Keith Urban. Other previous performers announced for that night include: Rascal Flatts, Kellie Pickler, and Lennon and Maisy from ABC’s Nashville. It sounds like it will be a great show!

The humbled singer was, of course, honored by the invitation:

“I’m speechless. It has been my lifelong dream to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. I am so honored to be invited!”

Congratulations, Kree! We are very excited for you and know you will have a great career. We look forward to following along.

Kree Harrison Heads To American Idol Finale

Kree-Harrison1-1

Kree vs. Candice!

It’s all-female finale on American Idol this season, and the first time a lady will take the Idol crown since Jordin Sparks in 2007.

The big showdown is next week, and we are very excited because our country girl, Kree Harrison, is finale bound! After saying good-bye to Angie Miller last night, Kree will be competing for the title against Candice Glover.

Keith Urban predicted during the season that we would see Kree as a member of the Grand Ole Opry someday. I definitely think we have a future country success story on our hands.

Congratulations on making the Top 2, Kree! We’re rooting and voting for you. Good luck next week!

Exclusive Interview: Introducing Brandon Chase

Brandon+Chase

If you’ve visited the Rising Stars of Country section on iTunes, there’s a chance you’ve seen Brandon Chase. His new EP, Country Enough, is featured there alongside the likes of country’s hottest new names, Charlie Worsham, Joel Crouse, Parmalee and more. However, if you haven’t heard his music yet, it’s time we introduce you to this  mega-talented Texan singer- songwriter.

KIC: For those readers who may be ‘meeting’ you for the first time in this blog, can you give us a little bit of a back story as to how you began performing?

BC: I started out my musical journey by singing in my church’s youth band when I was about 13/14. They had an audition to join the band, and for some reason, I just knew I had to try out. I went into it having absolutely no music experience other than beating on some drums. After making the band, I started teaching myself piano, which eventually led to guitar as well. I started writing worship songs for our youth band and found that I had a passion it. So I decided to major in songwriting in college which eventually evolved my writing into secular country songs. Now I’m performing all over town and loving every minute of it!

KIC: We read that you graduated high school at 15 and completed a master certificate for songwriting through Berklee at 18. What’s next?

BC: I actually graduated from Berklee at 17 believe it or not! But hopefully the next step in my life/career will be to tour the US and get the opportunity to meet all the amazing fans that I have had the pleasure to connect with through Facebook and Twitter.
