Exclusive Interview: Paul Jolley

Paul-Jolley-Interview

If you know the name Paul Jolley, chances are you were introduced to him by a little show named American Idol. If you don’t know the name Paul Jolley yet, it’s time we change that for you.

Upon chatting with Paul, he’s astonishingly humble, earnest and grateful for each opportunity that this crazy journey has afforded him. Although he’s already accomplished much, he’s got big dreams and even bigger talent.

Growing up in Tennessee, Paul was the kind of kid who always had a microphone in his hand. From organizing bedroom performances for his parents to appearing as a special guest performer during his school’s choir concerts in Kindergarten (he was too young to actually join the choir), it was immediately evident that he was bound for big things. As soon as he was able, he joined the choir, competed in talent shows and performed anywhere people would listen.

These performances included opening gigs for some legendary country artists, including Aaron Tippin, Billy Dean, Chely Wright and Lorrie Morgan. It was one of these opening gigs with Billy Dean that would change his life, as shortly after opening for the legend, he received a call from a radio station in Bowling Green, Kentucky, inviting him to come audition for American Idol.

Initially, Paul was hesitant, admitting that he auditioned three times previously and never made it past the first round. “I said I’d audition if I was off work,” Paul recalls. “It ended up that I was off work that day, which was weird because I never got off. I guess it was all just part of God’s plan getting me off work that day.”

5th Annual “Opry Goes Pink”

Opry Goes Pink

It’s a very special night for a very important cause.

The Grand Ole Opry is joining Women Rock For The Cure for their 5th Annual “Opry Goes Pink” event. Each year, an artist is chosen to flip the switch to turn the Opry’s signature barn backdrop pink. This year, LeAnn Rimes has that honor.

The special night will take place on October 22nd. Joining Rimes to perform that evening are Amy Grant, Pam Tillis, Mandisa, Natalie Grant, and Lorrie Morgan. Activities honoring survivors and in memoriam of those lost will also take place throughout the event.

Five dollars for every ticket sold go to Women Rock For The Cure to benefit breast cancer awareness.

Women certainly do rock and we will rock for a cure!

Exclusive Interview: Introducing Angel Mary & the Tennessee Werewolves

angel-mary-tennessee-werewolves

When I spoke to Angel Mary & the Tennessee Werewolves, they were amidst a radio tour in Paris, Texas. They were also in search of the Eiffel Tower wearing a cowboy hat. Believe it or not, shortly after our interview, they Tweeted a pic that they had found it.

Although this may sound silly, it’s a perfect anecdote about this family band, a determined, but fun-loving group determined to make their dreams come true. Whether those dreams involve finding the Texan Eiffel Tower or making great music, they’re well on their way.

Randy Travis Kicks Off 25th Anniversary Tour This Week

randy travis

Randy Travis is celebrating his 25 years in country music with the people who made it possible for the legend to have such longevity:  His fans.  The Grand Ole Opry member is taking his music on the road with stops all across North America.  The silver anniversary tour starts Feb. 10 in Grand Ronde , OR and will make at least 30 more stops along the way.  (For a complete list of tour dates, visit his website here.)

The tour is the latest part of the party celebrating Travis’ milestone.  In June, Warner Bros. Records released of the Anniversary Celebration album.  The 17-track album features guest artists who teamed with Travis to cover his classic tracks and some original offerings.   The guest singers include Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Kris Kristofferson, Carrie Underwood, George Jones, Zac Brown Band, Lorrie Morgan, Jamey Johnson and many more.

Travis has had 18 #1 singles and 29 top-10 hits.  His lifetime sales are more than 20 million, making him one of country music’s biggest sellers of all time.  His honors include seven Grammy Awards, 10 Academy of Country Music statuettes, 10 American Music Awards, two People’s Choice awards, seven Music City News awards, eight Dove Awards and five Country Music Association honors.

You’d think that after 25 years in the business, there wouldn’t be anything new for Travis to experience.  Not true.  What you’re about to read is from a first for him:  His first interview session via conference call!  It may have been foreign territory for Travis, but he sounded relaxed as he talked about the upcoming tour, changes in the making of music and if he’s finally embracing technology:
