Country rocker Eric Church will be part of a stellar line-up celebrating the music of Levon Helm this October. The special tribute concert “Love For Levon” will take place on October 2nd at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It’s a night that means something important to Eric, who explains:

“I can’t possibly overstate what Levon Helm meant to my music or my life.  He was a giant.  A man among boys.  I miss him personally, but that pales in comparison to how much music will miss his presence.”

The event will also feature collaborations and performances by Gregg Allman, Dierks Bentley, Marc Cohn, Patty Griffin, Warren Haynes, John Hiatt, Bruce Hornsby, Jorma Kaukonen, Ray LaMontagne, John Mayer, Robert Randolph, Mavis Staples, Joe Walsh, Lucinda Williams, My Morning Jacket, The Levon Helm Band and many more.

Tickets for the public will go on-sale on Wednesday, August 29th at 11 am EST on Ticketmaster. Proceeds from the event will benefit Levon’s estate and his Midnight Ramble concerts.

Eric will kick off the new leg of his “Blood, Sweat & Beers Tour” on September 13th in Amhurst, MA. His headlining arena tour will feature special guests Kip Moore and Justin Moore.

On March 4th, the Nokia Theater will host the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum’s All for the Hall fundraiser, making it the first time this event has been held in Los Angeles in three years.

“California, with its rich country music history, has proven to be a supremely appropriate and welcoming location for this event,” said Museum Director Kyle Young. “In fact, some of the state’s contributions to our genre are the subject of our very popular limited-engagement exhibition, The Bakersfield Sound: Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and California Country, whose run we’ve extended through the end of 2014. Los Angeles has always given our All for the Hall event a very warm welcome, and we look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones in March.”

This year’s fundraiser will be hosted by actress/singer/film producer Rita Wilson, and feature performances by Country Music Hall of Fame members Vince Gill and Emmylou Harris. Joining them will be Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members Heart and Grammy Award-winning artist Jason Mraz.

Exclusive: Interview with Brent Rupard

Brent Rupard

“I remember telling my sister when I was very young, ‘I either want to be like Alvin and the Chipmunks or Garth Brooks.’”

That is my favorite quote from my interview with Brent Rupard.

Brent is a proud Kentuckian who took the leap of faith and headed to Nashville in 2010 to pursue his dream and passion – music.

Rupard (pronounced Rooperd he jokingly noted) is from the small town of Shepherdsville, Kentucky. He took a liking to music early in his childhood. After his dad taught him his first guitar chord at age 10, an artist was born as they say and he started writing songs a few years later.

After he made the move to Nashville to pursue his dream career, he soon found a home for his songwriting. With the help of Leann Phelan (ASCAP), he signed a publishing deal with Sea Gayle Music Publishing which is owned by Brad Paisley, Chris DuBois and Frank Rogers.

After about a year of focusing on his writing, he started and is currently working on his debut album. He is hoping for it to be released sometime this year. When asked about his album, he says: “Working on this record has been the highlight of my life. This is a record I’ve always wanted to make. I’ve been fortunate to work on this album with Bryan Simpson and Justin Niebank producing. This record will have the elements of a “rootsy” back porch style with a big ol’ slice of Rock n’ Roll. According to my producer Bryan Simpson, ‘It’s kind of like Garth Brooks meets Levon Helm.’ I have really poured my soul into this project and I hope people get a clear picture of who Brent Rupard is from this debut album.”

Grammy Recap: Our Favorite Moments

Carrie-underwood

The 55th Annual Grammy’s took place on Sunday, February 10th and our favorite country artists were well-represented with performances and more. It was impossible to pick a favorite moment, so we picked a few of the best…

Taylor Swift Brings in the Clowns: We’ve never been asked to open the Grammys (or much more than our own mail), but we’d assume it’s a big responsibility that comes with a ton of pressure. With her genre-bending, Alice-in-Wonderland-themed opener, Taylor Swift set the tone for a night of unforgettable performances with her hit about never, ever, ever, EVER getting back together. Although she nabbed a Grammy in the pre-telecast for her collaboration with the Civil Wars, it was her performance that had everyone buzzing. Most notably, there was that moment when she pulled her best Madonna, suddenly acquiring a British accent. Although much has been made about what that meant, we here at Keepin’ It Country have decided it could’ve only been aimed in one direction…

Brett Detar is gearing up for his first country music and debut solo artist tour with Nick 13 this Fall. The former member of The Juliana Theory made his solo debut November 2010 with an Americana album “Bird In The Tangle.” Best of all? It’s free to download from his official website. How can you beat free?

Brett almost gave up on music completely after two failed musical collaborations before he decided to try to go the country route. After giving up on music as a career, he found himself in a deep depression and had no creative outlet: until he discovered Nashville. He ended up meeting up with Pete Young, who is Loretta Lynn’s producer, and 50 songs with an acoustic guitar in Music City.

“I didn’t rehearse the songs. I didn’t have any of the lyrics memorized. I just got in a room with these guys and we just played what felt right. It was pretty moving to hear those first playbacks. I mean, to hear my songs with mandolin and upright bass and fiddle and pedal steel and to hear these Nashville music veterans tell me all of these incredible stories about working with people like Willie, Levon Helm, Dylan, and George Jones and everyone was incredible. We literally recorded the very first time I ever played these songs with any other human beings and often times the very first take is what we kept. It was all about capturing the feel and the emotion of the songs.”
