Justin Moore Sued For Copyright Infringement

justinmoore

The Tennessean is reporting today that Justin Moore is being sued for alleged copyright infringement on his 2009 single “Backwoods.” Songwriter Bobby Carmichael and Louisiana-based fiddle player Britton Curry are claiming that their song matches Justin’s both lyrically and in pitch and rhythm. Justin and his label have not yet commented on the case, which as been filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.

Britton and Bobby’s song was copyrighted in 2003 and filed with the U.S. Copyright Office according to the report. The pair shopped the song around major labels in Music City in 2005. They are also claiming that Island Bound publishing somehow secured the song and then songwriter Jamie Paulson approached Justin with the single three years later. The single appeared on Justin’s debut album and the pair are claiming he made an unknown amount of money on a “stolen idea.”

The pair, who claimed to hear the single on the radio back in February, are wanting $150,000 in damages from Justin and Big Machine Label Group. It’s undetermined how many times Justin may have infringed on their copyright if he did.

Intellectual property lawyer Ramona DeSalvo is handling the case for Britton and Bobby. Both sides are scheduled to meet October 1st with a judge for a pre-trial discussion.

VIDEO: Justin Moore Unveils Honorary Yard of Bricks

When local firefighters saved Troy native Curtiss Shaver’s life during a tragic farming accident, Shaver knew he found his calling. Even though he lost the lower part of his left leg in the accident, he was as determined as ever to become a life-long firefighter and EMT for the region. In a special event this week at Troy Fire Station No. 1,  a ceremonial yard of bricks was revealed to recognize Shaver as winner of Crown Royal’s “Your Hero’s Name Here” program.

The national contest renames the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMA) on July 29th after a deserving American hero. In an effort to bring a little bit of the famous track to Troy, Alabama, Crown Royal organized a special ceremony that resulted in the laying of a replica “Yard of Bricks” in Troy’s downtown. The final, engraved brick was put down by Shaver himself.

Nearly 200 Troy residents, including the city’s mayor, were at the ceremony outside the Fire Station on East Walnut Street. It wasn’t only locals who were there – but country music star Justin Moore performed a short set in Shaver’s honor. He performed “Small Town USA” and “‘Til My Last Day” for Shaver and the community during the brick laying.

“It was an honor to come to Alabama on this special day to pay homage to Curtiss,” said Moore. “He truly embodies the all-American hero and I am glad I got to be a part of this historical celebration. We will have a great time in Indy for the Curtiss Shaver 400.”

Update on Justin Moore Fatal Accident

justinmoore

One of Justin Moore‘s tour buses were in a fatal accident on the weekend in Illinois. While Justin was not on-board at the time of the wreck on Saturday, a victim in another vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A car driven by Joseph Taylor had hit the bus from behind, and when he got out to inspect the damage on both vehicles, he was struck by another car and was pron0unced dead at the scene.  The traffic on Interstate 57 at Illinois Route 16 was re-routed for several hours after the accident.

Justin broke the news himself on Twitter a few hours after it had happened:

“Thankful my band and crew guys are all good. They got hit by a car this morning in their bus. Prayers go out to the guy who lost his life and his family. You never know man. You have to be prepared to meet God today, ’cause it may be your last.”

Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, and that of Justin’s band and crew.
