Keith Urban will not return to American Idol

Keith Urban.

Reports out this week are indicating that country superstar Keith Urban, along with the rest of the judge panel, will no longer be a part of American Idol’s next season. Keith had left Australia’s version of The Voice to join American Idol this season. Host Ryan Seacrest will remain with the show, becoming the only original member of the cast from the first season that crowned Kelly Clarkson. The 13th season of American Idol will undergo massive changes to try and bring back in the viewers that it has been losing through the last few seasons – including ratings being down 22% this season alone.

As well as the judge changes, FOX will also change how its weekly themed nights will operate. The only thing that may be left that will still resemble American Idol will be the audition episodes. FOX is trying to bring back its core audience, which is believes is younger viewers, and they don’t think that the current judges are doing that.

The show has kick started the careers of country stars Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery, Casey James, Danny Gokey, Bucky Covington, Josh Gracin, and Kristy Lee Cook, among others. Who is your favorite American Idol star?

Casey James Takes On Dramatic Role

casey james

Singer-songwriter Casey James debuted his brand new, and dramatic, music video for “Cryin’ On A Suitcase” this morning on his official website. While the music video is only available exclusively on his website today, it will be available on all other outlets on August 27th. The Nashville-filmed music video shows a dramatic side of Casey as he acts out the story of the single.

“This is the first opportunity I’ve had to ‘play a character’ in a video,” shares Casey. “My focus is always the music, but it was a lot of fun working outside my comfort zone. I wanted to make sure that the small amount of acting would be believable, and I feel like it is. I’m very proud of the video, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

“Cryin’ On A Suitcase” is the second single from Casey’s debut country music record. It’s currently number 29 on Country Aircheck and number 33 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart. Casey’s self-titled album made its debut at number two on Billboard Country Albums Chart on its release. He wrote or co-wrote nine of the eleven tracks on the record.

We’ll post the music video once its available on YouTube or VEVO, but make sure you check out Casey’s site to see it now and let us know what you think!

Casey James Performs in Reagan National Airport

AMERICAN IDOL: Casey James. CR: Nino Munoz/ FOX.

Singer-Songwriter Casey James teamed-up with US Airways to perform in Washington D.C.’s Reagan National Airport in celebration of their 30 Days for DC promotion. Casey performed an acoustic set that included his new single, “Crying On A Suitcase.” Fitting, right? The performance was held on the concourse level of National Hall.

“I can’t think of a more appropriate place to sing “Crying On A Suitcase,” said Casey.  “It’s an emotional song and who hasn’t been in that spot where your pride is coming between you and someone you love. This song is about that moment when you have to make that decision to stay or go and you make the choice to go after the one you love,” he continued.

In addition to the performance, Casey will be the featured artist in US Airways Magazine for the month of November.  Casey’s self-titled album debuted at Number 2 on the Billboard Country Album Chart upon its release and he co-wrote 9 of the 11 tracks on the album.

The concert is part of US Airways’ month-long campaign of promotions, surprises and events that give back to the Washington, D.C. community called “30 Days for D.C.”  The campaign celebrates the airline’s expanded service from Reagan National.  The campaign kicked-off on July 7 and will last through August 5. More information and a calendar of events for the final days is available at http://www.30daysfordc.com.

Brad Paisley Joining American Idol?

Brad Paisley. photo credit: Jim Shea.

Rumors have been flying for days now on who will be the replacement for Steven Tyler on American Idol next season, and many country stars have found their names in the mix. A report out now from Deadline is saying that Brad Paisley is being strongly considered for the new judge on the hit reality singing competition.

Brad has performed on American Idol in the past, and co-hosts the Country Music Association (CMA) awards with former winner Carrie Underwood. There’s been quite a few successful country acts to come from Idol – Kelly Clarkson, Kellie Pickler, Carrie, Casey James, Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery, all started their careers on the show.

Brad’s former tour mate, Blake Shelton, is currently one of the four coaches on The Voice.

What do you think about Brad being a judge? Do you think it will steal viewers back from The Voice or are you sick of Idol?
