Great music for a great cause… what else do you really need to hear?
Indie country artist, Steven Clawson, has released a Christmas charity single, “This Time Each Year.” All of the proceeds will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
You may know Steven from his albums, his YouTube videos and covers, or as runner-up on CMT’s Next Superstar. If you are unfamiliar with him, however, we really recommend you check him out.
Steven shared the story behind the charity song on his blog. It was beautifully written so here is an excerpt:
It all started with a conversation I had with my mother close to 10 years ago around Christmas. A family friend of ours had lost her husband to Alzheimer’s. I asked my mom how this friend was doing. My mom said she was fine, but that the holidays were a little tough on her. She told me that our friend had to put up her Christmas tree by herself this year, something that only emphasized the fact that she was alone.
I was young and selfish, and up until that moment had never once thought of the holidays as being a lonely time for some. I never forgot that conversation.
Flash forward a few years to 2007. My wife and I were getting ready to share our first Christmas together as a married couple. She had been begging me to watch The Polar Express. After a few weekends, I finally relented. When the movie ended, I couldn’t stop thinking about one of the characters, a poor child from the other side of the tracks. I walked into the guest bedroom, picked up my guitar, and without thinking started writing a verse about a child who, by no fault of his own, never gets to experience the joys of Christmas. When that was done, I immediately started writing a verse about the wife of a fallen soldier. The song just kept on writing itself.
I honestly don’t know if it took me 20 minutes or 2 hours to finish “This Time Each Year.” All I know is that when I was done writing it, I sat there and cried for a long time. I’m not sure why. I just did.
I’ve held onto this song for 6 years, but the timing is right for me to share it with you now. I want you to know this song is not about me. I don’t even feel like I wrote it. It was a gift, which is why I’ve decided to donate the proceeds of “This Time Each Year” to Second Harvest Food Bank.
“This Time Each Year” is available on iTunes, Amazon, and most online music retailers. Steven did a wonderful job with the heartfelt track, and I’m pretty confident that you’ll love the tone of his voice. It’s a beautiful message for the holiday season. Please purchase the single and help support Second Harvest Food Bank.
Also, stay tuned for my interview with Steven coming soon!
