Platinum-selling country superstar Eric Church had no idea that he’d have a day like today when he woke up this morning. He leads all artists with five nominations going into the CMA Awards this November, and he found out after the nominees were announced on ABC earlier today. He received his first-ever New Artist of the Year nomination at last year’s CMA Awards show. He’s up for Male Vocalist of the Year, Album Of The Year with “Chief,” Single Of The Year with “Springsteen,” Song Of The Year with “Springsteen,” and Music Video Of The Year with “Springsteen.”
Eric had no way of knowing he had so many nominations after losing his cell phone while on vacation. He was swimming in the Gulf Of Mexico when his phone went missing. It wasn’t until his label, on his return to Nashville today, had whisked him away to their office and projected the press release on the wall that he found out.
Eric shares:
“I really don’t even know what to say! I’m still a little bit in shock… I’m truly speechless. I think it’s a testament to the fans that believed in the music… loved the music… and told people about the music because otherwise we don’t really have the track record to be the most nominated at this point in our career. I think that it’s truly because of the fans… they did something I think is going to be judged as pretty special.”
