EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Sunny Sweeney

I had the chance to speak with the beautiful, and talented, Sunny Sweeney before she hit the stage at Darius & Friends Benefit Concert. The show at the Wildhorse Saloon in downtown Nashville was the unofficial kick-off to CMA Fest 2012 and turned into a standing room only event, but we found some calm before the storm backstage to chat for a few minutes.

We spoke with the Texan about her plans to come to Canada in the new future, her favorite tour moment, the Throwdown Tour, writing with Eric Paslay, why she doesn’t party on the road, and more! Check out our exclusive interview with Sunny Sweeney below:

Do you have any plans to come to Canada in the near future?

I would love to come up to Canada, and I’m always open to it and I’m hoping we can work something out!

You’ve been touring with some pretty big names, but is there one story that sticks out to you?

We’ve been doing a lot of stuff, we’re doing the Throwdown Tour right now. I was writing with Eric Paslay the other day and he’s awesome! Honestly, I don’t really party when I’m out on the road.. I’ll have a beer and then chill on my bus. There’s not much else extra going on, (laughs), you just try to sleep in the bus as much as possible.

Now, if you could tour with anybody who would it be?

I’d love to do a show with Merle Haggard. He’s a musical hero to me.

Are there any surprises from you over the next year?

We’re having hopefully new music coming out, so fingers crossed! We’re having meetings now, so I’m hoping it’s coming out real soon. We’re trying to pick out songs, and I’ve been writing a bunch.

Is there any song out on the radio you wish you wrote?

I love Randy Houser‘s new song, I think it’s really good.

If you could make a duets record with anybody, who would it be?

I don’t even know, there’s so many people… I love Randy’s voice too; maybe that’s why I love his song so much. I’ll have to say Randy, I think our voices would go really well together and I just really love his voice.

Sunny is currently out on the Throwdown Tour with her next date Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D. For a full list of her tour dates, visit sunnysweeney.com.
