All-American singer/songwriter Toby Keith has every right to celebrate. He has toured the globe for the past DECADE. His celebration involves visiting troops and performing for them with the USO five-country, twelve-day USO/Armed Forces Entertainment Tour.
Only four days into the tour, Toby has travelled to the Middle East to lift the spirits of the troops and their families. He has already touched the lives of 3,900 service members stationed in Bahrain and aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, as well as other locations.
“I can’t believe it has already been a decade, it feels like just yesterday when I first started working with the USO. I’ve met so many great, brave service men and women over the years and had so many wonderful experiences, that I can barely remember them all. One thing is for sure, I enjoy working with the USO, I love our nation’s troops, and I won’t ever stop doing my part to extend my thanks.”
Toby has travelled to over fourteen countries and participated in nine USO tours since his first tour in 2002. To date, he has participated in 211 USO shows and meet and greets. An astounding 182, 600 service men and women have had their spirits lifted by Toby.
While visiting troops in Afghanistan in 2007, Toby recognized the need to develop a program, which became known as the “USO2GO” program. The initiative sends much-needed electronics, entertainment, non-perishable food items and personal care items to troops stationed in remote locations. Already, 942 kits have been sent to 15 countries.
The USO President Sloan Gibson had this to say about working with Toby:
“The USO considers it a real privilege to have worked with Toby Keith over the last ten years. He has such a genuine interest in enhancing the lives of our nation’s troops and is truly among our biggest and most recognized supporters. We can’t thank him enough for all of the support he has shown us over the last decade and we look forward to many more years together.”
Without a doubt, Toby’s support for the troops is incredible. Beyond the USO annual entertainment tours, Toby can be found offering complimentary burgers and drinks to service members returning to America at his chain of restaurants, advocating for veterans and visiting wounded troops.
The country superstar will continue his decade-long tradition of visiting remote forwarding bases and helping the service men and women enjoy a little taste of home.
This summer, Toby will hit the road on his “Live in Overdrive Tour Presented by Ford F-Series,” kicking off in Salt Lake City on June 14th.
