EXCLUSIVE: J.T. Hodges Reacts To ACM Nomination

Showdog-Universal’s J.T. Hodges found a small window during writing sessions today to give us a call to share his excitement over being nominated for the semi-finalist round of the Academy of Country Music’s New Artist Of The Year. He’s one of eight semi-finalists vying for both fan and industry votes to make it to the final three nominees at the April 1st award show. Voting for the New Artist Of The Year semi-finalists is open now at VoteACM.com until January 30th.

The down-to-earth singer was shocked that he was up for the award, having only one single under his belt so far. See what J.T. had to say exclusively to us below:

Congratulations on being named one of the semi-finalists for the ACM awards. You must be feeling pretty good these days…

To be honest, when I found out I was a little bit shocked. When they told me I was going, “okay, am I being punked? What’s going on?” Even when GAC announced it and I got interviewed, I was still expecting someone to jump out and say “we’re just kidding!”. I’ve only released one single at this point, but I’ve learned that at the ACMs everyone who voted are peers in the industry. To get that kind of nod from the people around you that do what you do is really inspiring. It’s almost like I’m more determined now than ever. To be compared to some of the great artists I’m up against is an honor.

I’ll always be very, very thankful and a little bit surprised. I’m just looking forward to this year and it’s going to be a great year. I have a brand new single that’s going to be released February 13th “Goodbyes Made You Mine” and I’m really, really excited about it and to get it out to radio.

Have you had a chance yet to sit back and reflect, or has it all been a big blur to you this year?

Honestly it has been kind of a blur. I try not to stop and reflect, maybe it’s just a new artist thing to always be looking ahead. I take it day by day, but I probably should. It was a great year last year, I toured with Toby Keith and Eric Church. I had a single come out, I had a video that came out on GAC and CMT, I had a hosting thing with GAC. There’s been a lot of cool things that went on, but no, I haven’t had too much time to sit back and reflect on it all.. I guess I’ll have to do that, you just reminded me to do that.
