The Recording Academy announced today their Special Merit Award winners for the 2012 GRAMMY awards. Among the all-genre selections are George Jones and Glen Campbell. The ceremony will take place at a special invitation-only reception during GRAMMY week February 11th, 2012 and a formal announcement of the winners will also appear during the television broadcast of the GRAMMY awards. The GRAMMY awards will be held at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on February 12th, 2012 starting at 8 pm EST on CBS.
“This year’s honorees offer a variety of brilliance, contributions and lasting impressions on our culture,” said President/CEO of The Recording Academy Neil Portnow. “It is an honor to recognize such a diverse group of individuals whose talents and achievements have had an indelible impact on our industry.”
The Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges performers who have made significant contributions to the music industry. The award is determined by vote of the Recording Academy Board of Trustees. Other artists honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 are the Allman Brothers, Diana Ross, Antonio Carlos Jobin, The Memphis Horns, and Gil-Scott Heron. Steve Jobs, Dave Bartholomew and Rudy Van Gelder will recieve the Trustees Award at the same ceremony.
