In a shocking revelation to CNN, Vince Gill revealed that he almost became a victim of sex abuse as a teenager. With the story of the Penn State scandal topping the news and gossip wheels everywhere you go, it made the legendary guitar player reflect on his past. Vince claims that a gym teacher had made sexual advances towards him as a pre-teen at his school.
“It conjured up something that happened in my past when I was about that age, as a 12-year-old kid starting 7th grade. There was unfortunately a gym teacher at our school that wound up being the same kind of thing…and there were some advances made towards me that were very awkward.”
Luckily for Vince, nothing serious happened after that:
“Nothing happened, but it could have been a lot worse and my situation could have been a lot different. But there’s just no telling how often this goes on and nobody knows.”
Vince goes on to say that he believes that an open dialogue between parents and children is key to fight situations like these. As a father of three, Vince goes on to say that he believes society is better equipped to deal with sex and child abuse now than it was when he was growing up in the 60’s.
