American Idol winner Scotty McCreery teamed up with radio station WYCD-Detroit’s morning show to surprise a fan of his battling cancer. Alex Barnes’ aunt wrote to the radio station about her niece, who had recently been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and was a huge Scotty fan. All her aunt wanted was an autographed CD from the singer to cheer up her niece, but her surprise was even better than that! WYCD’s Don Carpenter got the fan, and her aunt, to meet the Idol himself!
“Alex didn’t know she was going to meet Scotty until she arrived at the station,” Carpenter said. “It was wonderful to see her smile, especially considering all the hardships she’s faced lately. I am so glad we could make this special memory for her.”
This is another reason why I love country music. The artists, and radio stations, go beyond the call of duty every time.
