Our thoughts and prayers are with the folks of Indianapolis and the Indiana State Fair today. WTHR meteorologist Nicole Misencik reports that a 60-70 mph wind gust occurred at the fairgrounds at 8:45 pm last night, causing the stage to fall. The death toll leaves 5 dead and over 40 injured with many more injured possibly added to the list in the near future.
Sugarland, who was about to take the stage when the disaster occured, issued this statement shortly after the collapse:
“We are all right after our stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair tonight. Many of our fans and friends in Indianapolis may not be. Please keep them in your thoughts, prayers, or whatever form of strength you are able to send. They need you. Thank you.”
Governor Mitch Daniels and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard were scheduled to tour the State Fairgrounds this morning. All Indiana State Fair activities scheduled for today have been canceled.
Please keep everyone involved in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.
